Position Summary Information

General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Division Dean/Associate Dean and the Program Chair of the Building Construction Technology Program, the instructor is responsible for providing regular instruction, developing and updating of the courses taught in a classroom/laboratory, Internet, and or distance-learning environment. Teaching assignments for this position could include, but not limited to basic carpentry hand tools, portable power tools, stationary power equipment, machine woodworking, construction theories, processes and practices, cabinet making, carpentry applications, residential and light commercial construction materials and hardware, blue print reading, estimating, and job-site safety. Additional areas of instruction include, but are not limited to applied construction mathematics, masonry/concrete, residential/light commercial building code requirements, specification reading, residential and light commercial drafting, concrete forming, frame and trim carpentry and microcomputer software applications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Building Construction Technology.*
  • Two(2)years of on-the-job/hands-on experience in residential and/or light commercial building construction and framing, concrete and masonry construction as well as manual drafting, CAD drafting, estimating, cabinet construction and installation, and blueprint reading.*

  • A 4-year Skilled and Technical Sciences degree may substitute for the degree/experience requirement.

Desired Qualifications
  • Documentation of an advance degree or additional college training related to construction and/or construction teaching and instruction.
  • Four (4) years of recent on-the-job/hands-on construction site experience.
  • Experience in SoftPlan drafting for residential and/or light construction.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision of residential and/or light commercial job-site projects
