Richmond Behavioral Health is seeking one individual for a full time Certified Peer Recovery Specialist position with our ACT Team (Program for Assertive Community Treatment). The incumbent will perform intermediate skilled human support work involving the assessment of client needs and providing access to needed and appropriate services including treatment, rehabilitation and service linkage, case monitoring and client advocacy functions, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned Program Supervisor/Manager.

Essential Functions

Coaching and consultation to clients to promote recovery and self-direction.

Consistently works with clients by assisting them with building skills that help promote their own recovery and self-sufficiency.

Facilitating wellness management and recovery strategies (e.g., Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP), Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), or other deliberate wellness strategies).

Participates in all team activities (e.g., treatment planning, daily team meeting, chart notes) equivalent to fellow team members.

Models skills for and provides consultation to fellow team members.

Provides cross-training to other team members in recovery principles and strategies.

Provides and administers medication(s) to clients.

Monitors and assesses client’s mental health status; provides supportive counseling as needed.

Provides crisis intervention services.

Arranges and provides transportation for clients to appointments, grocery stores, offices, etc; takes clients on social outings.

Develops staff and client schedules.

Attends training as required.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Some knowledge of community and Authority resources and programs of regional and State sources for the community service population; some knowledge of interviewing and supportive counseling techniques; some knowledge of social casework techniques; some knowledge of human development and behavior; some knowledge of the theories, principles and techniques of individual, family and group therapy; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement, medical personnel, clients, associates and the general public.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED with coursework in social work, psychology, mental health, or related field and moderate experience working with adults in a mental health setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CPRS with VDH required.

Qualifying staff will be eligible for a 1K sign-on bonus as defined by the terms and conditions of the approved sign-on bonus policy.

Special Requirements

Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

CPRS Certification Required
