Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the nursing supervisor of the specialty clinic,

  • Performs a variety of professional medical services for inmates within SCDC, ensuring that each patient is properly cared for by the specialty clinic team.
  • Assists with planning and managing patient care according to patient’s needs.
  • Assists in providing direct clinical patient care, within scope of practice, as needed.
  • Assists physicians with performing patient examinations, tests and procedures within clinic setting as needed.
  • Records clear, concise, and accurate information pertaining to health/medical history, vital signs and all treatments performed in the SCDC electronic health records computer data base.
  • Schedules patient appointments in the EHR.
  • Gathers and maintains medical records documentation and filing patient information using the EHR.
  • Performs administrative duties for the specialty clinic as needed.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned and needed.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina minimum requirements:

A high school diploma and or GED and experience as a Nursing Assistant. (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

SCDC Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma or GED and experience as a nursing assistant. Certification as a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant. Must successfully complete specialized medication administration training through the SCDC Training Academy within 30 days of hire.
