Job Responsibilities


Reports directly to the Chief of Intelligence. Under limited supervision, function as a Criminal Analyst in the SCDC Office of Inspector General. Perform intelligence/technical analysis and raw analysis from all sources to determine criminal activities. Field and handle requests from federal, state, and local jurisdictions to determine criminal activities and provide timely collection and dissemination of information. Create reports and/or databases for the purpose of intelligence gathering and sharing needs of the division. The criminal intelligence analyses process, including but not limited to text, graphics, images, and other data, may include sexually explicit and violent material.

  • Operate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment using a variety of databases and search tools to fulfil intel and investigative actions.
  • Work independently, or part of a team or task force, gather information related to specific criminal or administrative investigations, and disseminate the information in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Prepares and maintains correspondence and suspense files and prepares and maintains reports as directed. Provide research, analyzes, and technical support to assigned intelligence team and/or unit.
  • Receive, document, and research open-source social media and tips pertaining to inmates from outside-sources or sources within the SCDC.
  • Prepare and present reports or analyzes of various technical data as directed through the Deputy Director’s Office or Office of Inspector General. Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Collaborate and support the senior analyst(s) and Chief of Intelligence to meet the strategic goals and objectives of the Deputy Director’s Office or Office of Inspector General
  • Perform duties as the on call duty analyst during the assigned week, be prepared to report for duty anytime during the week within three hours or less from initial notification to support emergency or urgent intelligence requests from the Office of Inspector General.
  • Serves as an on-call an analyst on a rotational basis.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

  • A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.
  • A bachelor’s degree in technical or analytical course of study may be substituted for required work experience.
  • Acceptable degree areas include physical or technical science, engineering, political or social sciences, history, criminal justice, business, intelligence and/or National Security Studies, or a related field of study may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience.
