The Lake County Workforce Development Department plays an integral role in preparing individuals for the evolving work environment and meeting the hiring and talent needs of local businesses. Workforce Development is seeking an Employment Specialist to join our team of professionals working with local businesses and industries. The general function of the position is to conduct business and industry outreach. The position will work with businesses around creating and implementing workforce development solutions pertaining to young adults as well as work with the individual customer on hiring and training opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Identify new businesses contacts and customers through prospecting, cold calling, networking, and collaboration with Job Center partners

.• Develop relationships with businesses to understand jobs and skills in demand by employers and connect individuals to jobs in demand.

Utilize customer relationship management system to track business contacts, engagements and outcomes.

  • Research the job market (business, private and public placement, partner programs, and staffing agencies) to identify employer labor needs as it relates to developing a skilled labor force.
  • Conduct and participate in hiring events, job fairs, employment workshops and create hiring solutions including internships and sourcing resumes.

• Work as part of a team collecting data and relevant information to create reports and presentations to inform stakeholder on what is working well and where continuous improvement is needed.• Follow-up with employers to determine the status of referred applicants.

Individual Customer Career Services

  • Provide career and placement services to job seekers, specifically young adults age 14 and older, as related to employment plans, job readiness skills, and connecting to job openings and training opportunities. Data and Reporting
  • Stay up to date on labor market trends and data to inform businesses and stakeholders.
  • Work as part of a team collecting data and relevant information to create and deliver reports, presentations and publications.Event and Workshop Coordination
  • Assist in the planning, implementing and participating in hiring events, job fairs, employer events and employment workshops.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

  • Requires the ability to demonstrate competent listening, communication, and interactive and crisis management skills with clients and collaterals.
  • Candidates should have a working knowledge of computers and business applications including Microsoft Office – particularly Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Candidates must possess experience working with diverse constituencies, effective problem solving, organizational and analytical skills, and effectively communicate both written and verbally.
  • This Individual must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and has been identified as having remote working flexibility.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, sociology, psychology, or up to 5 years of experience and capabilities.
  • Requires two years of related experience and general knowledge of organization administration and management, with specific knowledge of workforce development experience preferred.
