To accomplish its mission, the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division (MCAH) maintains partnerships, contracts, and agreements with state, federal, and local agencies in both public and private sectors. MCAH hosts an array of programs and initiatives to serve the state’s diverse populations and regions providing important resources, information and data about reproductive health, family planning, pregnancy, birth outcomes and more. Most programs and initiatives within MCAH are funded by the 1935 Social Security Act’s Title V Block Grant.

Job Description And Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing duties related to the planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating strategic planning components of the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division.

The incumbent works under the direction of theHealth Program Manager I, Chief of the Outreach and Communications Unit (OCU). The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) is a highly skilled technical program consultant and serves in a key role in advising and assisting the HPM I on crisis communication plans and health education outreach. The HPS I is the liaison for public health emergency stakeholder communication and interagency efforts to coordinate program activities across departments. This position requires the incumbent to function independently, communicate effectively, provide effective consultation and technical assistance on communication strategies on emergent public health topics (i.e., COVID-19, monkeypox, extreme weather events, etc.) to the OCU, MCAH Division, and local stakeholders. This position involves in-state travel up to 5%.
