Department Overview

As a security first organization, Technology Delivery Services (TDS) is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The TDS teams include Information Security, Planning (architecture and PMO), Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services teams. We maintain an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.

Position Summary

This internship is with the IT Client Services (ITCS) unit in Information Technology Services at the University of California Office of the President (UCOP). The group offers a full range of technical support services to meet the needs of UCOP departments. This internship is intended for c urrently enrolled University of California students only.

The IT client support internship is offered as part of a student internship program in Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of California Office of the President.

This internship is intended to be year-round, and hours will vary depending on school schedules and availability.

The ITS internships are paid positions designed for currently enrolled University of California students interested in information technology.

Participants will:

  • Provision laptops
  • Develop an understanding of IT technical support operations and troubleshooting best practices, including hardware repair
  • Provide conference room support
  • Provide technical support for Promapp, QuestionPro and Smartsheet applications
  • Develop competency in business process mapping, data analytics and report generation
  • Develop an understanding of IT Asset Management and Recovery
  • Provision Jabber (softphone), smartphones, desk phones and speakerphones
  • Gain experience working with IT managers and staff

Part-time to full-time internships in different IT fields are offered.

Responsibilities

50%

Technical Support/Desktop Engineering: Perform basic provisioning of IT hardware and provide technical support for onsite and remote users.

20%

Telecommunications: Provision telecom hardware and provide conference room support.

20%

IT Asset Management: Develop competency in the IT Asset Management function.

10%

Strategy: Collaborate with other IT functions to gain a broader understanding of an IT organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled University of California student.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to write clear and concise emails.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated interest in learning IT hardware provisioning in an enterprise environment.
  • An interest in information technology and desire to learn.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve.
  • An interest in various business software applications.
  • Web design or programming experience preferred.

Education

  • High school graduate and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary And Benefits

Salary: $19.25 – 23.44 hourly commensurate with skills/experience.
