Description
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) mission is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

Within the Department of Corrections, Central Office is seeking candidates for a Justice Program Specialist to provide professional support for Commissioner’s Office in the development, implementation, and maintenance of various complex programs, projects, or activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supports the State Corrections Commission and administers the Community Corrections grant program.
  • Monitors grant compliance in accordance with program guidelines and grant standards.
  • Monitors grantee performance and outcomes. Ensures timely and accurate grant reporting.
  • Receives grantee documentation, reviews for compliance, and compiles reports.
  • Performs statewide monitoring visits for adherence with grant requirements. Identifies potential compliance violations. Issues notices of non-compliance and prepares action plans to correct deficiencies.
  • Organizes quarterly Kentucky Corrections Commission meetings.
  • Prepares documentation pertaining to work of the Commission and other items as requested.
  • Reviews research projects and legislation relevant to criminal justice issues impacting the program.
  • Provides support for the Commissioner’ Office as needed.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice administration, juvenile justice, or a related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master’s degree in a field related to the experience areas listed above will substitute for the required experience.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
