Description
John James Audubon State Park is located in Henderson, KY where the legendary artist and naturalist discovered his passion. At the heart of the park is a world class museum and nature center honoring him. The 1373 acre park offers recreational activities that include camping, golf, fishing, and hiking. John James Audubon State Park opened in 1938 is comprised of six cottages’, 9-Hole golf course, picnic shelters, Museum, nature center, hiking trails, lake, and campground.

The Landscaping Gardener II is responsible for the grounds and maintenance of the Golf Course and Park. If you enjoy working with your hands, plants, turfgrass and the outdoors then this position is for you! The course is a Larry Packard designed 9-hole golf course with push up bent grass greens. Tees, fairways and primary rough are bermudagrass and secondary rough is warm and cool season grasses.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Operating various mowing equipment
  • Operating and maintaining an irrigation system
  • Landscaping installation and maintenance
  • Leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills.

No golf course experience? No problem. If you have the appropriate employment and/or education background to meet the minimum requirements for this position and possess the willingness to learn, our skilled and experienced Golf Course Superintendent and staff is well equipped to provide the necessary training to get you up to speed with the art of golf course maintenance.

Some of the skills we are looking for are:

  • Golf course maintenance experience a plus.
  • Creating and maintaining landscape beds.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Chemical and fertilizer applications.
  • Irrigation repair and installation.
  • Basic equipment maintenance.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Time management.
  • Leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience leading small groups of staff.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of experience in grounds maintenance, golf course greenskeeping, landscaping, farming, or other related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College courses in horticulture or related fields, technical training in horticulture or related fields, or possession of a Kentucky Nurseryman’s Certification or other related trade certification will substitute for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions
Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Operate power equipment and work with pesticides. Exposed to loud noises and sharp objects.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
