RESPONSIBILITIES: The Library Associate oversees the day-to-day operations of the campus library. This key position leads the public service team, and with that team provides circulation services, answers technology questions, manages the information desk and works extensively one-on-one with students and faculty both in person and online. The Library Associate coordinates the circulation of library materials and maintains the library’s collections. The associate recruits, trains and manages the work of the student assistants, and participates in the training of other team members. The Associate coordinates interlibrary loan, the technology loan program and the reserve collection for the campus library. The Library Associate collects data about library usage, updates documentation and contributes suggestions for ensuring library services contribute to student success. The Associate works with the library director and librarians to plan, implement and market library programs, engagement activities, and instructional workshops. The Associate supports general college activities, as requested. Some evenings or weekends may be required. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with the general public in a library. Strong commitment to excellent customer service to a diverse college population. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively, efficiently and independently in a highly technological and team-oriented environment, with minimal supervision. Excellent Microsoft Office skills. Ability to welcome change. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required. High School diploma required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in an academic library setting. Experience locating and using online resources, which may include e-books, databases, social media and streaming video. Familiarity with integrated library systems such as Alma, OCLC, LibGuides, social media, and remote work.
- All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.
