The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Maintenance Technician I in the Property Department at North Texas Area Command, located in Dallas, TX.

Job Summary:
Performs a variety of routine repairs and maintenance work for buildings and grounds includingminorheating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work as well as routine maintenance and repairs.

Facilities MaintenanceResponsibilities (90%)

Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor plumbing repairs required including leaking faucets, clogged toilets, and water sprinkler malfunctions; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls; performs minor electrical repairs.

Monitors and repairs/replaces light bulbs, florescent tubes, spot lights, exit lights and other lighting malfunctions.

Inspects, tests, adjusts, and repairs all physical machinery, heating, cooling, piping, and electrical systems, and records maintenance in accordance with schedules.

Troubleshoots and repairs minor mechanical malfunctions and performs preventivemaintenance on vehicles, dishwashers, laundry machines, vent fans, etc.

Repairs walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture.

Maintains all supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department.

Checks and repairs pumps, fans, valves and motors.

Prepares accurate records for preventive maintenance.

Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.

Assists in setting up meetingrooms; sets up tables and chairs; puts ice in glasses and sets out drinks.

Facilities Cleaning Responsibilities(10%)

Fills in as needed for custodial contractors; cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.

Sweeps, vacuums, mops floors; sweeps sidewalks.

Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.

Empty trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds and cleans trash cans.

Oversees and directs the work of community service workers as needed.

Other Responsibilities:
Monitors activitiesand visitors of building and grounds to ensure security.

Drives a Salvation Army vehicle as needed to pick-up and/or deliver miscellaneous itemsneeded for maintenance workor to transport passengers.

Available for after-hours maintenance emergency calls, as needed.

Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.

Ability to learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions.

Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds.

Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner.

Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.

Ability to follow instructions and work with little or no supervision.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.


Two to three years experienceperforming maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds


Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Valid State Driver’sLicense

Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English languageeffectively.

Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work.

Ability to drive a vehicle safely to perform assigned tasks.

Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.

Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying very heavy objects (up to 100lbs.) frequently.

Working Conditions:
Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
