Description

The Montgomery County Department of Parks, Enterprise Division, is currently seeking seasonal/intermittent applicants to fill a variety of positions throughout Montgomery County.

Work hours are flexible and include evening, nights, holidays and weekends. These facilities are closed during the winter months (generally November – February). All selected candidates must display excellent customer service skills, attain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (training classes available) and attend in-house orientation. Ages 16 – 17 must have a work permit if hired.

Opportunities include:
Boat Dock Hand – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)
Provide assistance to children and adults in a boat rental setting. Assist with troubleshooting and repair of row boats, pedal boats, canoes, and kayaks. Clean and maintain boats, life jackets, boating equipment, docks, and grounds at the marina. Perform marina service and serve as dockhand. Work outside for up to eight hours per day. Perform custodial maintenance. Knowledge of fundamental computer skills, including operation of a point of sale system. Qualifications: Weekend work is mandatory. Ability to obtain a Boaters Safety Certificate within four weeks of hire date. Minimum age: 16
Boat Shop Manager on Duty – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)
Assists Facility Manager with managing and operating a boat rental facility. Responsibilities include managing staff, schedules, programs and revenues. Supervises staff engaged in operational activities, cash handling, and custodial maintenance related to facility operations. Knowledge of fundamental computer skills, including operation of a point of sale system. Prepares cash reports and bank deposits for manager’s approval. Notifies Manager of facility needs and requests orders for supplies. Qualifications: Weekend work is mandatory. Minimum of one year of boat operating experience (including motorboat s). Boaters Safety Course must be completed before hiring. Minimum age: 18

Pontoon Tour Operator – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)
Operates weekend public pontoon tours of the lake as well as private rides and programs during the week. When not operating the tour boat, Pontoon Operator assists Manager on Duty with all aspects of managing and operating the boat rental facility. Knowledge of fundamental computer skills, including operation of a point of sale system. Supervises staff engaged in operational activities, cash handling and custodial maintenance related to facility operations. Qualifications: Weekend work is mandatory. Minimum of one year of boat operating experience (including motorboat s). Boaters Safety Course must be completed before hiring. Minimum age: 18

Campground Attendant – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)
Attendants are responsible for the collection of rental fees to reserve campsites, creating permits, selling merchandise from the camp store, handling cash and point of sale transactions, serving as the Campground’s first point-of-contact for customer questions and/or concerns and assisting with store inventory and Campground activity programs, when needed. Attendants must be comfortable performing basic computer functions (e.g. use of a mouse and data entry capabilities), have a pleasant demeanor, and be knowledgeable of Campground programs, fees, and policies. Excellent customer service skills needed to answer phone calls. Other duties may include bank deposits, opening and closing facility, emailing customer permits and follow up correspondence. Qualifications: Ability to work weekday, weekend and evening hours March through November. Knowledge of fundamental computer skills required. Cash handling experience preferred. Minimum age: 18


Campground Activities Assistant – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)

Assist with camper activities and amenities such as pedal karts, jumping pillow, movie nights, laser tag, arts and crafts, leading nature hikes and organizing special events. Duties include activity set up and clean up. This position works closely with the campers to provide excellent customer service. Campground activities and amenities are scheduled April through October. Qualifications: Weekend work is mandatory. Minimum age: 16
Campground Maintenance Attendant – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)
Responsible for maintenance of approximately 91 wooded campsites, 3 bath houses, 3 Yurts, 3 Cabins, a Camp Store and Campground booth. Duties include removing ashes from fire pits, trash removal, sweeping and mopping facility floors, cleaning bath houses and yurts, setting up and cleaning camper ready tents, collecting recycling and transporting firewood. Attendants will report building/Campground issues to Facility Manager and keep accurate inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment . Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching and repetitive lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Qualifications: Part-time weekday and weekend work required March – November. Minimum age: 18

Splash Park and Miniature Golf Manager on Duty – (Starts @ $15.00/hr.)
Minimum of 1 year of pool operating experience. Manages and operates a splash park and miniature golf facility. Supervises staff engaged in program activities; cash handling operations; equipment safety procedures; and custodial maintenance. Prepares cash reports and bank deposits. Notifies Facility Manager of facility needs and requests orders for supplies. Manages party rental reservations. Qualifications: Must be able to obtain a valid Montgomery County Pool Operator’s License. Weekend work is mandatory. Minimum age: 18

Splash Park and Miniature Golf Attendant/Cashier – (Starts @ $15.00/hr.)
Performs routine tasks associated with various recreation programs and activities at a splash park and miniature golf facility including cleaning and maintenance. Assist management staff on the splash deck area with safety and crowd control. Cashiers are responsible for the collection of admission and course registration fees and serve as the facility’s first point-of-contact for customer questions and/or concerns. Cashiers must be comfortable performing basic computer functions (e.g. use of a mouse and data entry capabilities), have a pleasant demeanor, and be knowledgeable of facility programs, fees, and policies. Cash handling experience preferred. Qualifications: Weekend work is mandatory. Minimum age: 16

Train & Carousel Manager on Duty (Starting at $15.00/hr.)
Responsible for assisting the Facility Manager in supervising the daily operation of train and carousel rides and/or ticket sales for seasonal outdoor facilities (Cabin John Regional Park- miniature train OR Wheaton Regional Park – miniature train and carousel). Tasks include daily opening and closing duties, preparing cash reports and bank deposits, safe operation of the rides, handling cash funds, fiscal accountability for ticket sales, notifies facility manager of facility needs, requests orders for supplies, assists in booking party room rentals, checks the cleanliness of the overall facility and supervises staff. Ability to deal with large volumes of patrons in an outdoor setting is a must. Qualifications: Valid Driver’s License, Weekend/Holiday work is mandatory. Experience managing staff and cash handling experience preferred. Minimum age 18.

Train & Carousel Operators (Starting at $15.00/hr.)
Responsible for the daily operation of train and carousel rides and/or ticket sales for seasonal outdoor facilities (Cabin John Regional Park- miniature train OR Wheaton Regional Park – miniature train and carousel). Tasks include daily opening and closing duties, safe operation of the rides and performing routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and maintaining clean restrooms. Ability to deal with large volumes of patrons in an outdoor setting is a must. Qualifications: Weekend/Holiday work is mandatory. Minimum age 16 (18 with a valid Driver’s License to operate the Train).

Driving Range Attendant/Cashier – (Starts @ $15.00/hr)
Performs routine tasks associated with various recreation programs and activities at a driving range facility including cleaning and maintenance. Cashiers are responsible for the collection of admission and course registration fees and serve as the facility’s first point-of-contact for customer questions and/or concerns. Perform basic computer functions (e.g. use of a mouse and data entry capabilities), have a pleasant demeanor, and be knowledgeable of facility programs, fees, and policies. Cash handling experience preferred. Qualifications: Valid Driver’s license, Weekend and Evening work is mandatory. Minimum age: 18
