Under general supervision, assesses current security conditions at all City of Fargo buildings. Coordinates with industry experts to develop a master security plan for the City of Fargo.

Primary Responsibilities

Performs in depth analysis of current security conditions at all City of Fargo locations. Interviews City of Fargo staff to gain understand of security concerns and work conditions. Coordinates with industry experts to develop a master security plan for the City of Fargo to be presented to the City Commission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicates and develops working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
    • Communicates regularly with leadership teams and staff of the building to understand building operations, security conditions, and areas of concern;
    • Coordinates meetings with outside internal customers and external vendors to gather information;
    • Works with the Safety Manager and Training Coordinator to implement initial strategies to enhance employee safety and security.
  • Oversight of the badge access and camera monitoring systems.
    • Coordinates with Information Systems on any programming needs;
    • Collaborates with Facilities Protection Officer to develop processes and policies related to assigning badges and granting access;
    • Manages vendors on any installations or changes to security equipment;
    • Develops and implements consistent naming conventions across the system.
  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities.
    • Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements;
    • Plans the security, safety and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises;
    • Adheres to all service and operating standards;
    • Remains in compliance with local, state and federal regulations;
    • Continuously learns and knows the layout of the property, buildings and surroundings.
  • Plays an active role in developing physical security strategic plans.
    • Focuses on security initiatives which protect people, places and the organizations equipment or property;
    • Develops a final Master Security Plan to be presented to the City Commission;
    • Designs and implements audit activities to ensure security processes are followed.
  • Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
    • Knows and follows department and city rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss;
    • Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work;
    • When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner
  • Performs other duties and activities as assigned and responds to emergencies as directed by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

The job requires a minimum of an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree preferred in the area of criminal justice, security, management, business or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of security guard, police, law enforcement, criminal justice, military or related experience is required

Knowledge, skills and abilities include:

Physical Demands

Work is performed in a normal office environment. Work requires extensive use of a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. Work is generally light with some variety. Lifting a box of paper is the heaviest work. There is considerable attention to detail. The job may involve dealing with and calming individuals who are emotionally charged over an issue.

Activities include stooping, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions.

Light Work: Physical demands are normally those associated with light work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
