This Social Worker position provides behavioral health services and works in collaboration with the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS). This position may require travel to multiple DCFS locations within our service area, to include offices in Livingston, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes. This position is domiciled in the Livingston DCFS office; however, a different domicile may be considered depending on the chosen applicant.

This position may be filled as a Job Appointment or a Probational Appointment. Applicants may be asked to serve a probationary period of not less than 6 months and not more than 24 months.
Salary may be negotiable depending on the chosen applicant’s level of experience. Below is a list of the pay range(s) for the position(s): *

A master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work followed by three years of professional level social services experience.

Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners as required by law.

The master’s degree in social work must be from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, 1701 Duke Street, Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Job Concepts

To serve as a licensed Clinical Social Worker and to provide independent assessment, implementation as case manager of treatment plans, and independent counseling with a minimum of supervision with a concentration on clients or offenders with specialized/atypical cases.


Broad review from a higher-level social worker, facility manager, or administrator.

May provide functional supervision over lower-level social workers and professionals in other disciplines.

Department of Health and Hospitals; LSU-Health Sciences Centers, Acute Care Hospitals, Medical Schools; Veterans Affairs; Department of Corrections.

Differs from the Social Worker 3 by the presence of licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Differs from the Social Worker 5-A by the absence of responsibility of serving as sole social worker of a facility having full managerial responsibility over a facility’s social services program.

Differs from the Social Worker 5-B by the absence of direct supervisory responsibilities.

Examples of Work
Conducts Behavioral Health Assessments at both DCFS offices and FPHSA offices as required, which will address substance use disorders and mental health needs of each person referred. Completes these assessments with a focus on addressing current problems, past history, family history, and current functioning, and provides recommendations based on the results of the assessment. Ensures urine drug screens are conducted with each assessment, which will be utilized in a therapeutic manner. Coordination of care: Makes recommendations and referrals to appropriate programs in order to assist the client and family with obtaining the appropriate services based on the needs identified in the assessment. Sets up follow-up appointments for services at FPHSA clinics and/or other programs, as appropriate. Refers clients to peer support/recovery coach, as appropriate. Ensures correspondence, written reports, and other communications are carried out with other agencies as required. Participates in case staffing’s at the DCFS offices and provides treatment recommendations based on presented case materials. Serves as the liaison between DCFS Covington Region and FPHSA to address concerns identified by either agency. Provides training to DCFS staff relative to mental health and substance use assessment and treatment, as needed. Traveling to DCFS locations is required for this position.
