Founded in 1885, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is one of the nation’s largest and most diverse correctional departments in the country. Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Statement Of Qualifications
This application requires a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), which serves as a narrative description of how your education, training, experience, and skills have prepared you for this position. The SOQ also documents your ability to clearly and concisely present a written response to the following questions. The response should be typed and no more than two (2) pages in length, single-spaced, with a 12- point font size.

  • Please describe your Workers’ Compensation Experience including any training you have received. How have you applied that knowledge to case resolutions?
  • Describe a time when you have had to utilize your change management skills?
  • Describe a time when you have had to participate in contract negotiations? What was your strategy going into the negotiations and what was the resolution?
  • Please provide an example when you had to develop and provide a training presentation? What steps did you take? What was the resolution?
